Downtown Jewish Washington

Learn what it was like to live and worship as a Jew from 1850-1950 in the historic Seventh Street neighborhood, now known as Chinatown. Includes visiting the sites of four former synagogues.

Starts location: Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum

Metro: Red line to Judiciary Square
(National Building Museum/F St. Exit)

End location: Sixth & I Historic Synagogue
600 I Street, NW
Metro: Gallery Place/Chinatown
(Red, Yellow, and Green lines)

Guided tour length: 90 minutes

Jewish Old Town Alexandria

Learn Old Town Alexandria's long and storied Jewish history, from the 1850s to today. Includes the sites of two former synagogues and several Jewish businesses along King Street-including some that show traces of past Jewish owners.

Visit memorials by or for Jews, and headstones of prominent Jewish leaders buried at Arlington. Learn of Jewish participation from the Civil War to present – men and women, Sephardim, Germans, and East Europeans.

Starts location: Visitor’s Center of Arlington National Cemetery at stone benches facing parking garage and entry road
Metro: Blue Line to Arlington Cemetery Station

End location: TourMobile stop at Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers

Guided tour length: 2.5 hours
