Raising funds for memorial to Jewish chaplains at Arlington National Cemetery
With plans set for a monument honoring Jewish chaplains to be dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery Columbus Day weekend, the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington has initiated a campaign to help raise funds for that memorial and to create a new glossy brochure of Jewish sites in the cemetery. >> read article

Out of more than 1,000 submissions, the American Association of Museums (AAM) has awarded our Scrapbook Activity Guide first place in its publications competition. The only national, juried competition of its kind; it has encouraged excellence in the graphic design of museum publications for more than 25 years. Designed by Addison Hall, the Guide helps elementary school students and their families navigate through our exhibition, Jewish Washington: Scrapbook of an American Community.

Jewish Washington Wins National Award
The Jewish Historical Society has won a nationally recognized Leadership in History Award of Merit from the prestigious American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) for the exhibition Jewish Washington: Scrapbook of an American Community. Since 1945, this has been the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history. Curator/Archivist Wendy Turman accepted the 2006 award on behalf of the Jewish Historical Society at the AASLH annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 16, 2006.
