Description
A depiction of the death of Colonel Elmer Ellsworth, U.S. Army, at the Marshall House in Alexandria, Virginia. Ellsworth was among the Union soldiers who occupied Alexandria after Virginia seceded. James W. Jackson, owner of the Marshall House, killed Ellsworth as he attempted to raise a U.S. flag on the building. Another soldier subsequently shot Jackson.
