Description
As president from 1869 to 1877, Ulysses S. Grant worked to mend his relationship with American Jews. He paid attention to mistreatment of Jews in Romania and Russia. In 1870, he appointed Benjamin Franklin Peixotto, Grand Master of B’nai B’rith, as Consul to Bucharest, Romania.
